This state park is located in White Springs, north Florida, conveniently located about 5 minutes from I-75 and I-10, making it a great overnight if you are traveling between or through Florida/Georgia.
The state park celebrates the legacy of American composer Stephen Foster and the rich folk traditions of the region. It features a museum showcasing Foster’s music, a 97-bell carillon that plays his melodies, and a craft square where artisans demonstrate traditional skills like quilting, blacksmithing, and pottery. The park hosts the annual Florida Folk Festival, which highlights the state’s diverse cultural heritage.
Campground
Stephen Foster Folk Culture State Park has a relatively small campground comprised of 45 sites and one dump station. It always depends who is there when you are, but I would consider it a quiet and peaceful campground. There are 3 loops with quite a few pull through sites, as well as some long back-in ones.
There is a spacious playground for the children, and a variety of hiking or cycling trails, winding along the ridge of the Suwannee river and meandering back through some typical sand pine and palmetto fields. We visited during the winter, so the weather was ripe for exploring and enjoying the outdoors. The ridgeline trails would offer some shade in the summer, but some of the other trails would have full sun exposure and be quite hot, so beware.
Camp Sites

Most of the camping sites seemed level and well taken care of in terms of the actual gravel pad. This park has sustained substantial damage during the past few hurricane seasons. A tree had fallen across some of their buildings. They are working hard to clean up downed trees. The trails we hiked were accessible and the campground itself is cleared of any downed debris. It is not, however, as clean and tidy in terms of how the surrounding brush looks around some of the sites. Again, the sites are usable and fine, but some of the bushes are knocked sideways etc.
If you have a group of people or enjoy games, site 15 is located on an open field. You are exposed to people walking by or those entering or leaving the campground, but you don't have neighbors sitting and staring right at you. It's a great site for those that enjoy frisbee, throwing a footbal, cornhole or other such games that need space. If camping with friends sites 13, 14 & 15 would be a great combination. Back-in sites 7-11 looked nice and private, likewise 38-41 and 23-26.
Hiking & Cycling
Located nearby is Big Shoals State Park, offering hiking and cycling trails and views of Florida's only class III rapids, on the Suwanee River. In addition to the trails at Stephen Foster, we enjoyed hikes at Big Shoals and Little Shoals on the other side of the Suwanee. Both hikes were more or less along a ridge line overlooking the river. Another pleasant hike is the Gar Pond Trail which leads to both Gar Pond and Horse Pond.

Nearby
This campground is not located near a city, so bring what you need. The park did sell firewood when we were there in Dec. 2024. The nearest spot for other items would be the Dollar General in White Springs, it does have some basic food items both boxed and fresh, along with things like birthday cards, paper plates, command strips, kitchen utensils etc. There is a McDonalds and gas station by the highway.
This place looks gorgeous! I would loveee camp site 15, so big for games!!
